A Virtual Particle Domain Interpolation for Material Point Method

It has always been challenging to simulate highly deformable material behaviours numerically. One method that represents the material with inter-connected discrete points – material point method – is regarded as one of the most effective and efficient tools for handling the formidable task of large deformation. MPM has been shining upon many stages, from the design of armor protection on tanks to the snow avalanche in Disney movies. In this study, we developed an innovative method to replace the original points with polygons or polyhedron domains. Surprisingly, this new strategy can significantly enhance the MPM run with more accuracy and robustness while removing many limitations.
