The proposed method offers a distinct advantage over the alpha-shape method by eliminating the need for a user-defined threshold for boundary recovery. Instead, it utilizes indicator functions defined on the old mesh to accurately determine which elements in the new mesh should be retained or deleted. This results in a more refined mesh filtering approach that not only facilitates boundary fusion, but also improves the geometrical representation and preserves volume.
