The feasibility of simulating a lava flow on a tilted surface by the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method is investigated. In this study, the lava was modeled with molten metal whose physical properties were easily obtained. As a result, the side edge of the flowing molten metal solidified and formed levee-like shape. In addition, the front tip of the flowing molten metal became rounded. These behaviors of molten metal observed in this simulation resemble the characteristic phenomena observed in lava flows and solidification processes: lava levee and pahoehoe toe. Therefore, the applicability of this model for a detailed lava flow simulation is indicated.
